Sherman County Commissioner Precinct 4 Republican Race Tie Information

The following outlines the procedure for resolving ties:
The following outlines the procedure for resolving ties:
- Under Section 2.023(c) of the Election Code, in a race that requires a majority vote, if two or more candidates tie for the second highest number of votes in the main election, then an automatic recount will be conducted under Chapter 216 of the Election Code. If the automatic recount resolves the tie, then the candidate who is determined by the automatic recount to have received the second highest number of votes in the main election will proceed to the primary runoff election. If the automatic recount does not resolve the tie (i.e. those candidates are still tied for the second highest number of votes), then the tied candidates must cast lots to determine which one is to be the second candidate in the runoff election.
The automatic recount will be conducted on Monday, March 16, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sherman County Election Room. The method of counting votes in the automatic recount is the same method of counting used in the election that resulted in the tie vote. Either candidate, Tim or Rustin, may submit a written request the recount be done manually prior to the automatic recount. This request would need to be submitted to me, party chair, no later than 2:45 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2026.
If needed, cast lots will be conducted following the recount by game of chance, Domino draw. Rules for the Domino draw will be shared with Tim and Rustin who must acknowledge agreement of this game of chance.
Following the cast lots, the Primary Runoff Ballot Order will be:
1. Cast Lots Winner
2. Chris Riffe
